Keystone Resort Opens Nov. 11 with Powder Blue Tuxedos and a Prom Theme for it’s 35th Season
Keystone Celebrates Opening with an Aprés Ski Prom Party at Parrot Eyes Saturday
Keystone, CO - Nov. 10, 2005: Get your powder blue tuxedo or sequined prom dress and make the first turns of the season Friday at Keystone. The resort’s set to open for its 35th season with a Formal opening/prom theme this weekend.
With $10 million in upgrades over the past five years to the snowmaking system plus a little early-season help from Mother Nature with more than 3 feet of snow in the past month, Keystone skiers and riders will experience top-to-bottom terrain this weekend.
Opening day preparations - Thursday, Nov. 10
Today, Keystone employees are making the final preparations for Friday’s opening day. The prom committee’s buying balloons. The prom king’s ironing his baby blue tuxedo. Keystone’s avalanche dogs, Teton, Kenya and Alma, are wagging their tails. And, the mountain operations crew is putting the finishing touches on Keystone’s trails and rails.
Opening day weekend - Friday, Nov. 11-12
Keystone’s set to open at 9 a.m. Friday for its 35th season with top-to-bottom skiing/riding until 4 p.m. this weekend. The first 200 people to hit the slopes Friday will enjoy free donuts. On Saturday, skiers and riders will come dressed to impress with stylish prom attire before dancing the night away at the Parrot Eyes apres ski prom party 2 to 5 p.m. in River Run with the crowning of the prom king and queen and iPod Shuffles given to the best dressed.
Opening day lift tickets are set for $45 (prices are subject to change). River Run restaurants, Keystone’s Ski and Ride School, rental shops and lift ticket offices will be open with ride access out of River Run. Free parking will be available in River Run. What’s New?
This year, Keystone installed new pipeline and automated two new trails, expanding the largest and most sophisticated system in the Rockies. Making high quality snow is just part of the equation. This season, the resort purchased new snowcats to groom and sculpt the man-made and natural snow into perfectly lined tracks of corduroy.
The resort also continues to invest in the beginner terrain park, the A51 terrain park, with new funboxes, smaller rails and even more beginner jumps. The innovation continues in the full-size A51 terrain park with new, unique rails and a redesigned jump line created by Elliot Cone, Keystone’s new assistant terrain park manager who’s one of the best in the industry.
Veteran’s Day info
With many Front Range schools closed to celebrate the Veteran’s Day holiday Friday, the resort’s expecting a large turnout and lots of excitement on and off the slopes. In honor of Veteran’s Day, Keystone’s offering the $129 Liberty Pass, a season pass for active military personnel and their immediate family members. The pass allows unlimited skiing and riding at Keystone and Arapahoe Basin from the date of purchase through Keystone’s closing day (tentatively set for April 16, 2006). 36 Hours
Mark your calendars for the 2nd annual 36 Hours of Keystone Nov. 18-19. This event features 36 nonstop hours of skiing and riding and a punk rock pancake breakfast, live bands, DJs, red carpet movie premieres and street parties off the mountain.
